Veteran Indian actor Tabu signs Contact with Dune: Prophecy Series

Tabu: Award-winning Indian actor Tabu has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated Dune: Prophecy series by Legendary Television. Tabu will portray Sister Francesca, described as a strong and alluring character with a significant impact on the story. The series, initially titled Dune: The Sisterhood, explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit, a powerful group of women with superhuman abilities. Tabu joins a talented ensemble cast led by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams. Inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s Sisterhood of Dune novel, Dune: Prophecy takes place 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert’s classic Dune series. Directed by Anna Foerster, the prequel is set to debut later this year on Max.

“Dune: Prophecy” is an upcoming American science fiction television series set in the Dune universe created by Frank Herbert, set to premiere on the streaming service Max. The series serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune (2021) and explores the origins of the Bene Gesserit, an exclusive and powerful sisterhood with superhuman abilities. Set approximately 10,000 years before the events of Herbert’s novel “Dune,” the show follows sisters Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they combat forces threatening humanity and establish the Bene Gesserit sectThe series is produced by Legendary Television, with Alison Schapker serving as actress, writer, and executive producer. It was ordered by Legendary Television in 2019, as a spin-off from Villeneuve’s films, and underwent various creative changes before Anna Foerster became the director for multiple episodes in June 2023. Filming took place in Budapest and Jordan from November 2022 to December 2023. The upcoming cast includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, Chloe Lea, Travis Fimmel, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Chris Mason, and others. Tabu joined the cast as Sister Francesca in May 2024. The series was originally scheduled to start filming in November 2020 but began production in November 2022. It concluded filming by December 2023, with Pierre Gill serving as the lead cinematographer. The score for the series was composed by Volker Bertelmann.
