Sustainable Energy Leadership Award: Recently, Dr. Sultan Ali Jaber won received the “CERAWeek Leadership Award for Building Global Consensus towards a Sustainable Energy Future” from CERAWeek by S&P Global while recognising his contribution to UAE Consensus, which is significant for climate conservation. In COP28, Dr Al Jaber launched the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), whose aim is to decarbonize the oil and gas industry in the coming year.

At the World Governments Summit in Dubai, COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber emphasized the importance of the UAE Consensus to combat climate change and promote sustainable development. This agreement provides clear directions for countries to keep the increase in global temperature below 1.5°C worldwide through a series of groundbreaking initiatives. Some of these initiatives include commitments from all parties to move away from using fossil fuels, setting specific targets to increase the use of renewable energy, and pledging to stop cutting down forests. Additionally, the UAE Consensus established a fund to address Loss and Damage caused by climate change, which is a significant step forward in providing financial support for affected communities. Dr Al Jaber highlighted the UAE’s leadership in global climate and development discussions, emphasizing the importance of including everyone in the conversation. He stressed the urgent need for all countries to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050 and emphasized that cooperation and unity are essential for making progress. Looking ahead, Dr. Al Jaber called for countries to set more ambitious goals for reducing emissions, increase investment in climate-friendly technologies, and ensure that financial institutions provide support for climate adaptation efforts.
